The Walled Lake Performance Ensemble shined on Sunday at the Michigan Alliance for Performing Arts (MAPA) State Championships claiming its 16th consecutive state championship.

The ensemble is made up of the Walled Lake Percussion and Color Guard, which features students from all three high schools. They tallied a score of 88.500 in the Percussion World Class Division to win their 17th state championship in the program’s rich history.

“This year’s team has really punched above their weight class,” said co-director Nick Pourcho. “It has been a tough grind, and we are proud of them for not giving up.”

“Yes, they continued the legacy of success by winning the team's 16th-straight state championship but, more importantly, their approach of never giving up will have an even bigger impact on the group and its culture moving forward,” added Pourcho.

The Walled Lake Performance Ensemble will now get set to compete at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships April 16-18 in Dayton, Ohio. Walled Lake heads to the World Championships as the highest ranked high school from Michigan.
